Diploma in Wet Processing Technology
WP
Welcome to the Department of Wet Process Engineering (WPE), BGIFT Institute of Science & Technology(BIST). WPE is an emerging and highly demanding field of study. It is an interdisciplinary field comprising engineering, chemistry and environment. The faculty is committed to teaching, research and public service. A number of faculty members hold doctoral degrees in a variety of related fields. The faculty is enriched each year by new regular faculty appointees as well as return of faculty after completing higher education and research abroad. This scholarly talents adds freshness and vitality to the department of WPE. The WPE program will be recognized as the premier international program for preparing young men and women engineers for the textile industry and beyond. This recognition will be based upon the excellence of entering students, faculty, resources, educational experiences, student and faculty diversity, and impact on the industry. We earnestly emphasize on a healthy and intimate teacher- student relationship so that the true potential of each student is comprehended. The relationship of the department with the local industries is strengthened through various programs such as seminars, workshop, conferences and different events. The department of WPE aims not only to produce efficient engineers, but also well-educated reliable leaders who can contribute to the development of the country through enriching our industries.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
Wet Processing is a vital branch of Textile Engineering that deals with chemical and water-based processes applied to yarn, fabric, and garments. The objective of Wet Processing Technology is to improve the appearance, comfort, durability, and usability of textile materials through proper pretreatment, dyeing, printing, and finishing processes while ensuring quality, safety, and environmental sustainability.
DURATION AND ASSESSMENT
The textile and garments industry is the main driving force of Bangladesh’s economy. A major portion of export earnings comes from wet processing sectors such as dyeing, printing, and finishing industries. However, there is a serious shortage of skilled and technically trained manpower in this sector.
To develop skilled professionals and strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the global textile market, Global Touch Institute, under the supervision of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) and the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, provides practical, industry-oriented, and effective education.
The Wet Processing Technology program is conducted over 4 (four) years, consisting of 8 (eight) semesters.
This is a scholarship-based education system, where:
- Free books are provided to all students
- Meritorious students can study free of cost
Admission starts after the publication of SSC results. Generally, there is one session per year, and admission notices are published by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB). Usually, the admission process begins after May, depending on SSC result publication.
CAREER PROSPECTS
Wet Processing Technology focuses on the application of chemical, mechanical, and environmental engineering principles in textile processing. It converts grey yarn, fabric, and garments into finished, dyed, printed, and market-ready products.
The field includes:
- Pretreatment processes (singeing, desizing, scouring, bleaching)
- Dyeing of yarn, fabric, and garments
- Textile printing and finishing
- Color fastness and quality control
- Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) management
- Industrial safety, health, and environmental compliance
CAREER PATH
The wet processing sector is one of the most critical and fast-growing areas of the textile industry in Bangladesh. It supports the entire garments and export-oriented textile supply chain.
Graduates of Wet Processing Technology can build their careers in:
- Dyeing and finishing factories
- Textile printing units
- Garment dyeing plants
- Textile testing and R&D laboratories
- Quality assurance departments
- ETP and environmental management sections
